About Craig Puckett, Ph.D.

Craig is the Chemical Group Leader of PCZL’s Life Sciences Group. He has substantial experience counseling clients to help them develop their worldwide patent portfolio in order to achieve their business goals. Craig’s extensive experience includes counseling on freedom to operate, patentability, and invalidity opinions; ANDA paragraph IV certifications; due diligence analysis of patent portfolios; and patent procurement, both domestic and foreign. Craig’s domestic patent experience includes interviewing cases at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), drafting appeal briefs, and arguing cases before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. His international patent procurement experience includes prosecuting patents in Europe, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Chile.

Given Craig’s doctoral degree in organic chemistry, his practice is focused on a variety of intellectual property law issues in the pharmaceutical and diversified chemical fields. His pharmaceutical experience literally extends to products from A to Z: generic versions of armodafinil, candesartan, leflunomide, ondasetron, and zolpidem, among many others. Craig has substantial expertise procuring patents directed to pharmaceutical compounds, medical formulations, methods of drug administration, methods of treating medical conditions, biotechnology (peptides and small molecules), medical devices, food chemistry, polymers, petroleum refinement, catalysts, and diversified chemicals. Craig has drafted over 150 domestic patent applications and over 60 opinions for his clients.

Prior to joining PCZL, Craig worked for the intellectual property boutiques of Pennie & Edmonds, LLP. and Kenyon & Kenyon LLP.  During his third year in law school, Craig served as a judicial intern with the Honorable Paul Michel of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Upon his return to law school, Craig was the Director of the Franklin Pierce Innovation Clinic, which counseled inventors and start-up companies in their patent portfolio development.
